Race Report

Snetterton - 12th/13th July 2008

Race One
Testing on the Friday was cut short because of heavy rainfall which flooded the track. Therefore, Dino only managed to get in six laps of testing on a track he’d never experienced before. So with limited track knowledge for qualifying, he managed to salvage a 4th place for both race one and two. He achieved a decent start and found himself behind Carnaby, ready to make his move. Unfortunately, Aaron Williamson caused Dino to spin by hitting the back end of his car. This pushed him back into 16th place! However, a determined Dino was undeterred and climbed his way back into a credible 5th position - setting the lap record on the way!

Quote from Dino: “I think I’m starting to grasp the idea of damage limitation! It’s a pretty bad result realistically because I was in a great position. But I’m still learning this track, so hopefully tomorrow I can pull myself back onto the podium.”

Race Two
Starting from 4th place on the grid, Dino held his position. However, a small mistake on lap one meant he had to cut the chicane, losing valuable time and position. He found himself in 6th place and several seconds off the leader. Due to lack of track knowledge he found it hard to be consistently quick. However, by lap six he was still in contention, moving into 5th position, and set the lap record by over half a second. This he repeated on lap 7. He quickly caught the two cars ahead, and on the final lap succeeded by crossing the line in 4th position.

Quote from Dino: “I was still effectively finding my way around the track and this was evident on lap six and seven. I found my feet and started lapping half a second quicker than anyone else. It took too long though as I would only have two laps to try to get on the podium. Still, it’s been a good damage limitation exercise and I’ve got valuable points for the championship.”
