Race Report

Silverstone 30th/31st August 2008

I had a trouble-free practice session and set the car up exactly the way I liked it and qualified on pole for both races.

Race One
Dino managed to remain in first place off the line and stamp his authority within the first lap by opening up a slight lead. By lap 3, he had created a massive gap from the followers and took the win comfortably by over seven seconds. With Tom Carnaby crashing into retirement, the championship lead swung back in Dino’s favour.

Quote from Dino: “I knew this circuit would really like me because I really liked it! Snatching back my lead in the championship is a vital step forward and I’m overjoyed. I got off the line and pulled a gap from lap one. A big thanks to my team, Muzz race and to all my sponsors.”

Race Two
It was wet for race two on the Sunday. Dino got off the starting line reasonably well but lost two positions. However, once he settled into the groove, he picked off the competition and then opened up a sizeable gap in the lead. A safety car ruined his lead, and meant that there would be a last lap dash to the line. He managed to hold off Hill on the last lap to take the win by over a second. Dino also got the fastest lap by over 8 tenths of a second.

Quote from Dino: “I’m absolutely overjoyed with my weekend’s performance. I really like driving in the wet and it was made harder as I my wind screen kept steaming up. Unfortunately, my windscreen wasn’t heated so I convinced my team to buy a spare windscreen wiper. What I didn’t realise was that every lap I had to wipe the screen twice just so I could see! The first lap was hectic as understandably, I couldn’t really settle down. However, after that I found a routine with the wiper in my car, making sure I wiped the screen on both the straights. I couldn’t see anything behind me as my mirrors had also steamed up, but the pit board said I had a reasonabe gap. After that I just brought her home to open up a good lead in the championship. It’s now only a short stretch to the end where I’m looking forward to holding on!”
