We did well in free practice and learnt the circuit as well as set the car up. This meant that I was able to qualify on pole position for both races.
Race One
In race one, Dino got off the line reasonably well, however Daniel Lloyd beat him off the line. It was, however, a jump start from Lloyd handing the virtual lead to him. He raced hard and pushed Daniel until lap 10. On lap 10, Daniel succumbed to the pressure and spun off track, handing the ‘on track’ lead back to Dino. He took the victory by a couple of seconds.
Quote from Dino: “I’m really, really pleased to get back to the number one spot! It has been a really long time since I’ve been on the podium so am just grateful for this win. I pushed Daniel all the way, even though I knew I had the lead. I wanted to make it a useful race and in the end he felt the pressure a lot and spun out. I came across the line elated! Thanks to Muzz race and my sponsors.”
Race Two
In race two, Dino managed to pull off the line well and maintain in first place. He and Daniel kept swapping positions continuously and then on lap 6, he re-took the lead and tried to stamp his authority by opening an initial gap. However, Fergus Walkinshaw had an incident the lap before which had left anti-freeze on one of the corners. As he came by in the lead, with no indications from marshals, I was the first to slip on the anti-freeze and off into retirement as I hit the barriers.
Quote from Dino: “I’m unhappy about losing the race today but still happy about my win earlier on. We’ve found our pace again with the new engine in and, even though I’ve lost the championship lead, I’m eager to get stuck into the next race. Silverstone should be an interesting race as I’ve raced the circuit on my Play Station game, and loved the circuit.”
