Race One
Dino qualified 3rd and immediately made a good impression in the field by getting off the line well and moving up to 2nd by the first corner. Unfortunately he was pushed down the order to 7th and, going into the chicane for the first time, locked up his wheels, pitching the car into a spin. Dino re-joined the race in 14th place, 15 seconds behind the race leader, but was obviously determined to battle his way through the field. After seeing Carnaby crash off, Dino knew that any points would open up the gap in the championship and this incentive helped scorch his way to a credible 7th place by just lap 4.
Then, taking the normal line, Dino had a great exit out of Redgate corner, succeeding in overtaking two cars in the Craner curves, and pushing him up into 3rd position by the end of lap 5! Whilst the two leaders continued to vie for first place, Dino quickly closed the gap by putting in new lap records in two consecutive laps, suddenly finding himself on the tails of the leading duo at the beginning of lap 7. At the start of lap 8, he overtook into second place at the entrance of Redgate Corner and then started to mount an attack on race leader Josh Hill. Still on lap 8, he feinted a great move to the inside at the chicane which unsettled the leader as he crashed into a foam bale allowing Dino to take the lead at the last moment and finally achieve a well deserved poll position (see video of race on home page).
Quote from Dino: “Not once did I look in my mirrors after my spin. I was quickly gaining ground and found myself eating up the competition with every lap. The important thing is I was able to overtake people without losing my rhythm, so I was never in a side to side battle with anyone. This allowed me to catch everyone, anywhere on the track.”
Race Two
Dino started 2nd and got off the line very well, but slipped in behind the leader Josh Hill for a lap. On lap 2 Dino overtook him on the first corner, Redgate, and then stayed there. A safety car came out on lap 3 until lap 5 and at the re-start Dino pulled and retained a sizable gap by putting in consistently fast laps to win the race easily by more than 3 seconds.
Quote from Dino: “As the track was quite damp, I knew that if I got into first place, I could avoid any carnage and stay out in the lead. So I got up the inside of Josh and lead from then on in. It has been a fantastic weekend for me and I am really happy to open up a sizable lead in the championship. Thanks to the team and sponsors again.”
