Race One
Dino had never raced at Cadwell Park before and with only a few practice laps, managed to qualify on pole position by seven tenths of a second. After a horrible start, Dino fell down the order into 7th place but after 3 laps, managed to fight back up to second with some great passing moves, including out-foxing Josh Hill round the tight and twisting circuit. A red flag incident prompted a re-start. Dino then started in 3rd place, but a bad move quickly demoted him down to 8th place. However, undeterred, he quickly climbed back up into 4th place by the next lap. He then carried on fighting his way up to take first place with only 2 laps to go. He opened up a six tenths lead and managed the fastest lap.
Quote from Dino: “ I was annoyed at myself for slipping down the order once again, but I kept a cool head and found I had so much speed that I was overtaking people left, right and centre. I was happy because before the race meeting, everyone kept telling me that qualifying was everything and that it would be hard to overtake on such a difficult circuit.”
Race Two
Dino decided that he needed to work on his starting technique and sat down with his team boss Stef to find an answer to the problem. It certainly seemed to work as getting off the line in race 2 was a lot easier, and he retained pole position. After getting off the line cleanly, Dino never looked back, opening up a 17 second lead in only 11 laps. Coming home first and capping off a dominant weekend, he takes a firm hold on the championship.
