Race Report

Brands Hatch - 29th/30th March 2008

Race One
Dino qualified in 4th position, got off the line badly and slipped down to 7th position, but still managed to haul himself back into contention by lap 5. He finally succeeded in passing two cars on the straight to get into 2nd position on lap 11. He then closed the gap of 3 seconds in three laps and on the final corner of the final lap, he stuck his nose up the inside of Dominic Pettit, running side by side to the chequered flag. Dino managed to take the win by a mere 0.025 seconds! Dino also achieved the fastest lap.

Quote from Dino:  “I was in sixth place early on and losing pace, so I thought to myself I have to try to make up some places,” said the round one victor, “I managed to pick people off one by one and when I got into second I thought I had a good chance of winning the race.

“My pit board said there were three laps to go when actually there were only two, so on what turned out to be the last lap, I went up the inside of Dominic – he gave me space which was nice – but then I could see he was coming back at me. I just put my foot down and we ran side by side to the line. It was such a good race, I was so happy to win.”

Race Two
Dino was off the line and held position conceding one place, but immediately re-gained it. Due to the safety car coming out, he managed to make an immediate impression by taking 3rd place around the outside of Paddock Hill with a breath-taking manoeuvre. On lap 11 the safety car came out again and at the re-start Dino started to put pressure on the second placed car. He then made a move up the inside going into Surtees, but a coming together with Carnaby took him out of the race. Dino tumbled down the order into 14th place but on the last lap managed to gain 2 places, coming in at 12th.

Quote from Dino: “It is very annoying to be taken out of the race, especially as I had a lot of pace.  I think I was in a good position to win that race but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.  Nonetheless, I am still happy with the race win yesterday and can go onto Cadwell Park in two weeks time knowing I have the speed to win.”
