Zamparelli crushes opposition at Thruxton
with ‘Perfect Weekend’
BRDC Rising Star Dino Zamparelli took two very dominant victories in rounds 9 & 10 of the Formula Renault BARC Championship to put himself in a strong position to take the title at Silverstone on 15th and 16th October.
Zamparelli started the weekend in dominant fashion and stunned his rivals by taking pole position by over 6 tenths of a second.
“Qualifying went really well. I was lying around P3 with only a few minutes left of the session. I managed to get some space, nail the lap and got a good tow round the straights as well. All this added up to a lap close to perfection which was well over half a second clear of anyone”, Dino explained.
Zamparelli Untouchable
Lining up on pole position, the 18 year old Bristolian made a perfect getaway and led into the first corner. From there he never looked back and streaked clear by over 1.5 seconds every lap. By lap 7, his lead had increased to just over 9 seconds.
However, a clash between two cars down the order meant the safety car had to be deployed, eroding Zamparelli’s lead. Due to the damage of the crash, the race was not to be resumed, so Zamparelli took victory on lap 8 under safety car conditions.
Zamparelli also took fastest lap and was 7 tenths of a second quicker than anyone else.
“Well, it feels like a bit of an anti-climax to win under the safety car conditions. However, I’m not complaining. The win and fastest lap was just what I needed and I managed to do that.
“I didn’t make one mistake during the race and was increasing my lead by about 1.5 seconds to the chasing pack every single lap. I’m pleased with the victory and the start I made was brilliant too.”
Zamparelli Untouchable ….again
Dino Zamparelli made yet another perfect getaway for race two of the weekend and led the field on the first lap. Pushing hard from the word go, Zamparelli increased the gap to over 5 seconds by the end of the race but slowed down at the end to make a celebratory gesture to the team on the pit wall.
Setting another blistering lap during the race meant Zamparelli took fastest lap and with it an additional 2 Championship points.
“What an amazing weekend! Two pole positions, two wins and two fastest laps! It was quite literally the perfect weekend. We were quickest in testing on Friday and the quickest all the way through the weekend. It proves what a brilliant job my team, Antel Motorsport, have done and all their hard work leading up to and during the weekend paid off.
“The actual race was pretty straight forward. I got off the line well, just like the first race, and lead the first lap. I kept my foot on the accelerator all the way and made no mistakes.
“I’m leading the Championship going into the season finale, but I won’t be thinking about this. All I will be concentrating on is getting another two wins and letting the Championship take care of itself.”
Taking maximum points over weekend allowed Zamparelli to increase his Championship lead to rival Josh Webster by 19 points going into the final round of the Championship at Silverstone, on the 16th October.
Rounds 11 & 12 of the Formula Renault BARC Championship take place at Silverstone on 15th and 16th October 2011.
