Zamparelli cruises to first race win of the year
Dino Zamparelli claimed his first race win for over 18 months with a dominant lights-to-flag victory in Round 4 of the Formula Renault BARC Championship.
Setting pole position for Round 4 by 1.5 tenths, Dino was best placed to take the win and duly delivered with a stunning drive.
Race 1
Zamparelli had to settle for a 7th place grid slot after making a costly error on his best flying lap. Only 2 tenths off pole, he was understandably frustrated to be so far down.
“It’s the same for a lot of drivers on the grid I know but it’s frustrating. It is very close round here, but we didn’t quite get the optimum out of the tyres early on, and I was struggling to get heat into my tyres. It was only until the end I started putting some quick laps in, but by then, everyone had pretty much set their quickest lap.”
For race one, Zamparelli got off the line well and slotted into 6th place. From there, it was a case of follow the leader as Zamparelli was unable to find a way past the tight and twist nature of the Brands Hatch circuit.
Race 2
Starting from pole position, Dino made a great start and launched into the lead. From there, he pushed hard to increase his lead and was rewarded with a 3 second gap by the end of the race. The contented BRDC Rising Star had this to say, “It’s great to finally win again! It’s been absolutely ages since my last win and it does feel great. I had to just make sure I got the start that I wanted and once I did that, I was away.
“I managed to pull out about 3.5 seconds gap, but had to slow down as the yellow flags came out, by the end I think the gap was about 3 seconds. Still, a great win and happy to get off the mark!
“The car was very good so I have to say thank you to my team, Antel who did a great job all weekend. I’m looking forward to Oulton in two weeks where the aim is to pick up some more wins!”
The result also leaves Zamparelli second in the championship standings, only 11 points off the lead.
Rounds 5 & 6 of the Formula Renault Championship take place at Oulton Park on 28th May
